I am considering writing my issues paper on one of two topics: Majoring in Marine Biology or majoring in Pre Veterinary Medicine. Both are of great interest to me and right now I am working on the Pre Veterinary Major.
Would it be best to stick with Pre Veterinary as my issues paper topic since I am already headed in that direction and become more informed on the major or would this be a great opportunity to find out more about Marine Biology? I'm very torn on the matter. Do you guys have any ideas of what specifics I could get into besides application process, colleges to apply to, or different medicine/marine bio studies?
Find out what classes are necessary for the major. Find out where the best programs are. Find out BYU's standing for these majors. I can't imagine BYU is the hot spot for marine biology. What kind of careers come out of these majors? What's the pay?
ReplyDeleteMy question is what would be the "issue" that you're writing on? Would it be to persuade people (including yourself) to go with that major? If you get a specific question, it might be easier to then know what specifics to research to get that answer
ReplyDeleteI think that you should go with Pre Veterinary topic, since you are interested in that one. A good idea would be to do how the prevention of animal cruelty has changed in the last few years. There is a good book that might help you. It is called "All Creatures Great and Small" By James Herriot. It is an autobiography about his life as a vet. This happens to be in our library so go check it out! Good luck!
ReplyDeletei think you could use elements of both in your paper by comparing them. type of work, pay, required schooling, etc.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could focus on factors of each major that would cause people to want to specialize in these fields. Maybe give the reasons and then compare and contrast to determine which one is better suited for your needs. That's just a thought. Good luck with that.
ReplyDeleteChris that's a good point...I didn't even think about what the issue could be. Would the issue of me being indecisive about a major count and this paper can help me better inform myself? This paper might be more for me and convincing myself what I would like to do. Maybe compare and contrast the two majors and their outcomes? Or maybe focus on the negative things that will come out of these certain majors? no jobs, a lot of debt, hard to apply, competitive? I will try and figure out the issues part.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of veterinary stuff, please excuse my spelling, I think something to consider would be the issues that surround animal abuse in the media. These such things include Dog fighting, proper chicken treating- non abusive slaughtering. Those concepts are something that involve both animals and media
